Job description

The Geosensing Systems Engineering & Sciences (GSES) program (https://ncalm.cive.uh.edu/gses/geosensing) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Houston is seeking a highly motivated graduate (PhD) student to work with Dr. Fanghui Deng to study the surface and subsurface features and changes of the Earth, including but not limited to land subsidence, natural and induced earthquakes, and volcanoes aiming to improve the related natural and anthropogenic hazard assessments. Students with background and interest in satellite geodesy, remote sensing, geophysics, and geology are encouraged to apply.

The student will be fully supported as a research assistant with a competitive salary plus tuition waiver and health benefits. The student is expected to work on coastal subsidence and/or induced deformation and seismicity in oil and gas fields, and is also encouraged to develop new projects. The expected start time is September 2024. A bachelor’s or master’s degree is required before the official start date.
