Job description

The Earthquake Research Institute conducts observational research in ocean areas to elucidate various solid-earth phenomena, including crustal activity in subduction zones as well as the structure and dynamics of the oceanic mantle, based on multi- parameter observations such as earthquakes, electromagnetism, and heat flows.
This ‘Call for Applications for Assistant Professor in the Ocean Hemisphere Research Center’ seeks an early career researcher who will pioneer novel sciences from ocean- area observations to enhance our understanding of the planet Earth.
The successful candidate will develop cutting-edge methods based on seismological and/or planetary seismological techniques and collaborate with interdisciplinary fields such as material sciences. Research objectives include elucidating the structure and dynamics of the Earth’s interior, understanding the mechanisms of earthquakes and offshore volcanic eruptions, and/or monitoring subsurface dynamic phenomena and structural changes beneath the ocean.
The candidate will also be expected to make a significant contribution to the education of undergraduate and graduate students.
