King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia invites applications for a full-time, remote data scientist role in Professor Hylke Beck’s research team, part of the Climate and Livability Initiative (CLI). The successful candidate will engage in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) projects aimed at forecasting natural hazards, assessing climate change impacts, and managing water resources. Duties involve participating in research and development and contributing to scientific publications.
Candidates should possess advanced skills in deep learning methods, including convolutional, recurrent, and graph neural networks, as well as generative modeling. Extensive experience with Python, ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, source code version control, and big data analytics is essential. Expertise in computer vision and applying deep learning to visual data analysis will be advantageous. Preference will be for candidates with a proven track record in software development.
This role provides a unique opportunity for data scientists to transition into academic research and use their skills to address real-world challenges. The initial appointment will be project-based, with the possibility of extension or advancement to a PhD, depending on performance. Compensation will reflect the individual’s unique qualifications, skills, education, experience, and location.
