Research grant for 12 months in Volcano modeling with geophysics
University of Trieste
The University of Trieste offers an excellent working environment, located at the shore of the Adriatic Sea, with the Karst and Dinaric mountains offering ideal places for hiking. The University offers a wide range of curricula, including masters and PhD programs. The research is embedded in projects funded by the Italian and European space agencies. The candidate could have a PhD, but also a Master degree is compatible with the study. The formation could be in Geosciences, Environmental sciences, Engineering, or Data Science.

Geodesy (G)
Geodynamics (GD)
The scientific work entails modeling an underwater volcano like Marsili, collecting information on its structure, and determining potential scenarios of volcanic eruption and its evolution over time. The corresponding gravitational field will be calculated. The results from the simulated field will enable the establishment of observational requirements for the planned MAGIC/Next Generation Gravity Mission, aimed at detecting submarine volcanic activity.
Interested candidates can contact Carla Braitenberg, Professor in Geosciences, Member Advisory Committee on Earth Observation- ESA. The below date is approximate, the call will be published in some time, the work could start after the summer, for instance in September or October 2024.
