Job description

The Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) of the University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks to hire two permanent-eligible (equivalent to tenure track) Research Faculty. These New York State supported college-year appointments allow for supplementary summer salary from external research funding. Areas of particular interest include hydrology, radar meteorology, and renewable energy (especially solar energy); however, outstanding candidates from other areas of atmospheric science will also be considered.

The successful candidates will be expected to pursue and secure funding to support a robust research program and publish their work in scientific peer-reviewed journals. We expect the position to strengthen ASRC and the University by maintaining a strong externally funded research program, mentoring graduate students and postdocs, and participating, as necessary, in service to the Center and the University.

Opportunities exist for successful candidates to exploit ASRC’s world class facilities and projects including the NYS Mesonet and Whiteface Mountain Field Station as well as UAlbany’s nation leading AI+ initiative.

ASRC has access to resources from a number of facilities and projects including the ASRC Mobile Laboratory, xCITE Lab, Center of Excellence in Weather and Climate Analytics, and the State Weather Risk Communications Center. ASRC maintains collaborative relationships across UAlbany departments and NY State agencies, including the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (DAES), College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity (CEHC), Environmental & Sustainable Engineering, School of Public Health, NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS Department of Health, and NYS Department of Transportation.

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and the names and contact information of three references through the Research Faculty, Atmospheric Sciences Research Center job posting on Interview Exchange.

For more information about this announcement, including deadlines and required documents, please refer to the Human Resources website at ASRC Research Faculty (2 positions) or contact Scott Miller (smiller@albany.edu, 518-437-8799).

A review of applications will start on June 14, 2024 and the posting will remain open until the position is filled.

The University at Albany is an EO/AA/IRCA/ADA Employer.
