Job description

Location: Agricultural Research Organization (Volcani Institute), Israel
Start Date: As soon as possible

We’re looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team tackling challenges in climate modeling and data assimilation. This project, funded by the Israeli Ministry of Science, Technology, and Space, focuses on building a high-resolution data assimilation system and reanalysis for Israel.

🌍 What You’ll Do:
- Run simulations with regional climate models (WRF) at convection-permitting resolutions.
- Assimilate satellite and in-situ data into WRF output and establish a data-assimilation system.
- Work with High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems to develop and verify our prototype.
- Share your findings at conferences and through scientific publications.

💡 What We’re Looking For:
- A Ph.D. in Earth sciences, Physics, Engineering, or similar.
- Skills in scientific programming and experience working in HPC environments.
- Familiarity with gridded spatial datasets (e.g., NetCDF, satellite data).
- A desire for publishing and presenting scientific research.
- Experience with WRF modeling and data assimilation techniques is beneficial.

💰 What We Offer:
- A two-year position (with a potential extension for a third year).
- Annual salary: 120-150K NIS/year (≈ $32-40K USD), based on experience.

How to apply
