Job description

We offer multiple 4-year PhD positions in Prague, Czech Republic, in the fields of Laboratory Plasma, Nuclear Fusion & Tokamaks, Space Plasma, and Space-related Experiments. The areas of research include both experiments and theory/simulations. The list of available projects is at https://www.mff.cuni.cz/en/physicsphd/f2/phd-projects-funding, but another topic can be negotiated. The Application form is ready for your submissions (https://www.mff.cuni.cz/en/physicsphd/f2/application). The application deadline is January 24, 2025, for positions beginning in the Fall semester of 2025.

PhD thesis research will be conducted at one of the participating institutions in Prague: Charles University (Department of Surface and Plasma Science) and Czech Academy of Sciences (Institute of Plasma Physics). The PhD degrees are awarded by Charles University. The positions are funded by a combination of government stipends, individual grants, and institutional fellowships. The positions are open to candidates of any nationality.

Benefits depend on the type of the working contract, but all PhD students receive subsidized meals, the possibility of staying in student dormitories, and free “Czech as a foreign language” classes. There are minimal fees or tuition for PhD students. Prague remains cheaper than other comparable European cities while offering a similar level of comfort and entertainment.
