Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate for the topic “Dynamics of hydro-physical properties and solute release from rewetted fen peat soils” in the newly-established Collaborative Research Center “WETSCAPES 2.0”, funded by the German Rearch Foundation (DFG). Doctoral researchers will gain insights into multiple aspects of this interdisciplinary project, building comprehensive knowledge of WETSCAPES 2.0’s research themes and specialized expertise in their chosen topic. The integrated research training group “WETSKILLS” provides structured doctoral trainings, preparing participants for excellent career opportunities in academia and industry.

The position offered here will be located at the University of Rostock, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Chair of Soil Science, and starting on the next possible date on a temporary basis for the duration of the project “WETSCAPES 2.0”, ending on 2028-12-31.

Your tasks will include
- research in the field of soil hydrology on the dynamics of hydrophysical properties and the release of dissolved substances from rewetted peat soils with the aim of obtaining a scientific qualification (doctorate) – soil sampling and field measurements (soil water tension, DOC concentration, etc.) – laboratory work, including determination of the soil hydraulic/physical properties, method development and soil column experiments – data analysis – numerical soil hydrological modeling of water fluxes in peat soils – publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals – active member of the Integrated Research Training Group WETSKILLS and participation in the offered course program
