Job description

About the role
We’re looking for a Model Risk Manager to join our growing Model Risk Management (MRM) function. In this role, you will help ensure the scientific soundness, robustness, and regulatory compliance of Climate X’s internal Climate, Hazard, and Loss models.

You’ll work closely with our interdisciplinary Science team—comprising climate scientists, hazard specialists, geospatial experts, and data scientists—to ensure that model risk controls are embedded throughout the model lifecycle. You’ll play a critical role in upholding our MRM standards while helping to advance our models toward scientific and regulatory excellence.

This is a hands-on, cross-functional role that includes direct collaboration with model developers, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the model lifecycle, including coordination of model developer documentation, evaluating and documenting model risk findings, and tracking their resolution.
- Support the oversight and governance of our model risk management framework, including maintaining the model inventory, model documentation, and issue logs.
Monitor model risk controls to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory expectations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to communicate model risk findings, recommend improvements, and support transparency and trust in our modelling approach.
- Support model performance monitoring and issue resolution processes.
Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the MRM framework by updating MRM governance policies and standards.

Essential Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
- Experience in model risk, validation, governance, or development—ideally within a financial services, banking, or regulated environment.
- At least 5 years of experience in analytics or the development/validation of statistical models.

Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with regulatory model risk standards such as PRA SS1/23 and SR 11-7.
Understanding of climate modelling, climate risk scenarios, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of macroeconomics and/or IFRS 9 / CRD IV modelling practices.
- Experience with risk management and internal control frameworks in regulated financial institutions.
