Job description

A three-years position is posted in the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant SWIM (Surfing Radio Waves to Detect Liquid Water in the Solar System). The main objective of the SWIM project is to assess the dielectric properties of the materials believed to be present inside the Jovian satellites’ ice shells, and to establish under what conditions evidence of liquid water can be detected inside/below the ice, using radio waves. At the early stage of the project it is foreseen to build a novel setup to measure ice dielectric properties at cryogenic temperature in the frequency range 1-100MHz. The Postdoc candidate will be requested to fundamentally contribute to the design, construction and testing of a multiple system to simultaneously measure high and low frequency ice property and to assess the structural characteristics and the ice samples produced in the measuring cells using microtomography analysis.
