The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) is an independent and internationally oriented research institution within the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, and is part of Geocenter Denmark. GEUS also acts as consultant to public authorities and companies within nature, climate, environment, energy and mineral resources. GEUS is responsible for the scientific exploration of the geology in Denmark and Greenland including shelf areas. GEUS maps, acquires and monitors data, informs the public about geological matters and is the national geological data centre.

The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) is looking for a Journal Manager to support the editorial team at our flagship, diamond open access journal, GEUS Bulletin. The position is part time maternity cover (approx. 20 hours a week), expected to run until 30 June 2026. The position should be filled as soon as possible.
About the position
As Journal Manager you will work closely with the editor in chief, the scientific editors, reviewers, authors, copyeditors and typesetters to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the journal. You will also help the editor in chief to implement non-editorial tasks related to journal development and planning.
Specifically, you will:
conduct editorial checks on all incoming and accepted manuscripts
respond to editor, author and reviewer queries via the submission system and email
publish articles online via the submission system and coordinate print runs of special issues
ensure that all published articles are delivered to 3rd parties for indexing and preservation
monitor and facilitate non-editorial tasks, including forwarding invoices and organising renewals of key 3rd party services
help the editor in chief to implement the list of non-editorial activities agreed with the External Editorial Board, e.g. developing training materials for authors and reviewers
Coordinate content for the journal’s quarterly newsletter and social media channels
liaise with the scientific editor to plan regular team meets
liaise with the External Editorial Board to arrange the annual meeting and prepare the journal’s Annual Report ahead of the next meeting in spring 2026.
Your qualifications
You are experienced in scholarly publishing, ideally as a journal manager, managing editor or similar at an academic publishing house or journal.
You have a firm grasp of journal publishing ethics and standards and their implementation.
You are familiar with working within a journal submission system (preferably, though not limited to, OJS – Open Journal Systems) and understand the typical workflow of a peer-reviewed scholarly journal (online and print)
You are comfortable with responding to enquiries of both a technical and editorial nature from editors, reviewers and authors.
You have excellent written English and experience in editing scholarly manuscripts in (UK) English.
You will be part of a Danish speaking department, but the working language of the journal is English.
The Department for Press and Communications
The successful candidate will be based in the Department for Press and Communications at GEUS. Our department is responsible for internal and external communications and press. We publish the scientific journal, GEUS Bulletin, as well as the popular science magazine, Geoviden. We also help researchers with their scientific articles and grant applications. The department includes journalists and communication officers and a team of graphic designers who produce scientific figures, graphics, infographics and video.

Salary and terms of employment
Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the collective agreements between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the relevant eligible trade union.
The appointment area is the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and its institutions.
The position is located in Denmark and it is a requirement, that you are located in Denmark, for a one-year period with 20 hours per week, and is to be filled as soon as possible.
