The Hydrology Research Group within the Dept. of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Missouri is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to provide programmatic research- and outreach-related support for projects related to water resources management in the Mississippi-Missouri River Basin in the United States.
Responsibilities include working with the faculty mentor, collaborators and graduate students to (i) develop watershed- to continental-scale hydrological and biogeochemical transport models that assess the impacts of severe weather on agricultural water management, reservoir operations, and water quality impairments in streams and lakes. The primary responsibilities include developing and/or modifying and updating existing simulation models to adequately represent management decisions such as agricultural land management, reservoir operations and point and non-point sources of pollution discharges.
In addition, the Research Fellow will also provide support related to data integration technologies to aid in integrating, testing and validating field research and instrumentation, and help prepare research proposals, project reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
The Fellow will be given opportunities to participate in organized teaching, outreach, and career development activities, to present research findings at national conferences, and to mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
The position is based at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, USA. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable for another year based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
Applicants must have a PhD in hydrological sciences, civil / environmental / agricultural engineering, atmospheric science, meteorology, mathematics, physics, or related fields; experience in assessment of geospatial data to enhance biophysical process understanding, and to develop tools for decision making; experience in high performance computing and programming in Python, R or similar programming tools are required; and excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
