The Department of Geology at the Faculty of Geo- and Atmospheric Science at the University Innsbruck invites applications for a postdoctoral position (university assistant, 6-year) in the field of tectonics and structural geology. The position is available as early as November 1st, 2025, and should be filled by March 1st, 2026, at the latest.
The successful candidate will conduct independent field-based research in structural geology and tectonics with a regional focus on the Alpine region. Additional expertise in laboratory-based analytical techniques and/or tectonic modeling, particularly with potential for collaboration with existing research groups and laboratories at the institute, is beneficial. The position also includes opportunities to further develop collaborations within the Research Center for Geodynamics and Geomaterials.
Teaching duties comprise the (co-)supervision of tectonics and structural geology related courses, with an emphasis on regional geology and fieldwork (Bachelor and Master level) as well as the supervision of students, including (co-)supervision of Bachelor-, Master theses.
Your profil:
- Completed doctoral (PhD) degree in Earth Sciences or a related field.
- Scientific achievements beyond the doctoral dissertation are desired, documented by publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Proven expertise in field-based research in the areas of structural geology and tectonics; prior knowledge of the regional geology of the Alps is expected.
- Experience with laboratory-based analytical methods and/or tectonic modeling, especially with potential for collaboration with existing research groups and laboratories at the institute.
- Experience in academic teaching in structural geology and tectonics is welcome.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
