We seek a motivated and enthusiastic researcher who wants to develop her/his/their skills in the General Geology working group at the Institute of Geography and Geology, University of Greifswald. The working group focuses on the solid Earth and its interaction with the hydrosphere and atmosphere. The successful candidate is free to investigate tectonic and geodynamic processes at different spatial and temporal scales. The research may be based on geological fieldwork and analytical methods or on the application and development of mechanical and conceptual models. The position serves to develop academic qualifications. Tasks will be assigned that are conducive to the preparation of a habilitation or a comparable qualification.
Your responsibilities:
- Active participation in research and teaching
- Research in the field of structural geology, tectonics, or geodynamics. The research may be primarily computer-based (e.g., application and development of numerical models) or field- based (e.g., organization and implementation of field work, structural analysis)
- Publication of scientific results in scientific journals
- Planning, organization, and implementation of courses and examinations
- Supervision of student theses
Your qualifications:
- MSc and PhD degree in geosciences or a related discipline
- Knowledge of geological fieldwork or numerical modeling
Further knowledge and skills that will play a decisive role in the selection of suitable candidates are:
- Good knowledge of German and English
- Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: tectonics, seismotectonics, geodynamics, structural geology, (AI-supported) data analysis, and signal processing
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or Matlab
- Knowledge of ABAQUS or codes such as ASPECT
- Knowledge of geoinformation systems, particularly the analysis of digital terrain models
- Experience in evaluating and interpreting geophysical data
- Driver’s license
