Job description

The Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) seeks applications for a

Data and computer scientist (f/m/d)

The position is limited to 2 years with option for further extension with a start date as soon as possible. The employment is according to the collective labour agreement for public service of the federal states (TV-L EG12).

Your Tasks:
You are a passionate and skilled data scientist and programmer who is collaborating with our scientific and IT personnel to aim for attractive solutions for our data products. This includes the maintenance and execution of developed computer programmes for data processing and visualisation. Your ideas and contributions to effective data analysis are valued in both data handling and visualisation. You will maintain some of IAP’s scientific support services, e.g., the GitLab server, and conduct scientific data management. Support in content maintenance of our webserver is part of the employment. You will be part of the working group “Satellite data analysis” which mainly concerns tasks in handling scientific satellite data and products like from ESA’s Swarm mission. You are also involved in handling data from instrumentation on ground and from models.

Your Qualifications / Experience:

  • A Bachelor or Master in computer sciences, engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline
  • Work experience in data management and scientific programming
  • Interest in geoscience and exploitation of data
  • Knowledge of hosting services like GitLab
  • Knowledge in Python, FORTRAN, MATLAB, HTML, or similar. Experience with Typo-3 is appreciated.
  • Skills in text processing programmes like LaTeX and MS, Libre or OpenOffice.
  • Knowledge and experience in ML methods and KI applications is appreciated.
  • Strong communication skills within national and international consortia
  • German language skills support your application
