Geosciences Instrumentation and Data Systems (GI)
Responsibilities
Independent research in the field of Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) and GIScience, publication of high-quality conference and journal papers, as well as organization of and participation in events and conferences.
Independent teaching (in German and English) of Bachelor’s and Master’s classes on topics such as GIS Algorithms, Geodatabases and geo-data management, Programming in GIS (e.g., Python), Geographic Information Retrieval, etc., and supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
Participation in existing and future research projects and proactive writing of research grant proposals.
Teamwork and promotion of excellence within the Geoinformation working group, as well as collaboration with other geodesy departments (navigation, remote sensing and photogrammetry, satellite geodesy, and engineering geodesy), computer science department, and the NAWI cooperation with the University of Graz.
Active participation in the institute and university administration, as well as in university and non-university committees.
Admission Requirements
Completed doctorate in geoinformatics or a related field with a focus on GIScience, Geomatics or GeoSpatial Technologies.
Desired Qualification
Expertise in (at least in part) GeoAI and GIScience topics such as: spatial representation and reasoning, spatial computation and algorithms, geographic information retrieval, geo-social sensing, machine learning, spatial data science
Proven scientific and subject-specific achievements in the field, which can be demonstrated by international, peer-reviewed publications, as well as active publication activity and presentations at international and national conferences and meetings.
Very good written and spoken German and English. If you do not yet have any knowledge of German, you are expected to be willing to acquire it.
Didactic skills for an adequate implementation of teaching at Bachelor’s and Master’s level as well as gender and diversity competences.
