Postdoctoral Research Position: Atmospheric Jet Stream Variability and Climate Change
We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join a project on “Atmospheric jet stream variability, it’s response to climate change and the role of tropical zonal asymmetry”.
The project combines theory, modeling and data analysis to advance our understanding of jet stream maintenance and variability under zonally asymmetric conditions. A particular focus will be on the subtropical jet which dominates the upper troposphere during both winters, and is driven by longitudinally localized tropical convection.
Research methods include:
- Running simulations with an idealized general circulation model (GCM)
- Analyzing CMIP climate model output
- Analyzing ERA5 reanalysis data
The position will be based at Orli Lachmy’s atmosphere dynamics lab in the Open University of Israel in Ra’anana, near Tel Aviv. The project includes regular meetings and joint seminars with collaborators at Tel Aviv University, Weizmann Institute of Science, and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Position details:
- Initial appointment: 1 year
- Possible extension: up to 2-3 years, depending on progress and funding
We are seeking candidates with a strong background in atmosphere dynamics, climate science, or related fields, and experience in numerical modeling and/or climate data analysis.
Please send your application to orlila@openu.ac.il, including:
- CV and publication list
- Names and contact information of two referees
- A cover letter describing the applicant’s research interests and motivation
- Educational degree certificates
