Summary
This post-doctoral project aims at reconstructing the internal structure of Heinrich stadials of the last two glacial stages with unprecedented temporal resolution focusing in changes of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation strength, as well as in northeastern Brazilian rainfall. The selected candidate will apply the following main proxies in marine sediments: (i) radiocarbon; (ii) stable carbon isotopes; and (iii) major elements.
The fellow will be based at the University of São Paulo's School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH-USP), conducting research within the Center for Research on Climate Crisis and Disaster Resilience (CLIMARES), a Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center (RIDC) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and hosted at the Institute of Energy and Environment (IEE-USP).
The position is open to candidates of all nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a monthly FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship of R$ 12,570.00 and a Technical Reserve equivalent to 10% of the annual fellowship value to cover unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity.
Pre-requisites
Experience in geochemical analyses of deep marine sediments applied to late Quaternary Paleoceanography, as well as excellent English communication skills.
Interested candidates should apply via email (chiessi@usp.br) with the title “Postdoctoral fellowship in Internal Structure of Heinrich Stadials” sending the following documents (all in English): (i) one-page cover letter describing the candidate’s scientific interests and career objectives; (ii) curriculum vitae with publications list following FAPESP standards (https://fapesp.br/en/6351); and (iii) one recommendation letter.
