EOAS is housed in a new building (2020) with state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories, has 36 faculty members and 102 graduate students, and offers undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Environmental Sciences. In addition to collaborations with other faculty within EOAS, the appointee can expect collaborations with colleagues in groups such as the Center for Ocean-Atmosphere Prediction Studies and the Departments of Mathematics and Scientific Computing. The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science (EOAS) at Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Earth System Modeling. We seek candidates who integrate knowledge of atmospheric science into modeling across the coupled Earth system. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, modeling of complex interactions between the atmosphere and other elements of the Earth system, such as oceans, land, and/or ice; modeling of natural hazards, such as hurricanes and wildfires; AI-based or hybrid parameterizations of unresolved processes for Earth System Modeling; global or regionally-refined Earth System Modeling at storm-resolving scales; and high-performance computing for weather and climate modeling.
The appointee is expected to teach core Meteorology courses and contribute to both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Meteorology as well as across EOAS and to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program in their specialty area of interest. Candidates must hold a Doctoral degree or the highest degree appropriate in Atmospheric Science or a related field.
