Job description

At the Institute of Geosciences at Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel, the position of
Research Associate
on the topic “3D inversion and thermal modeling of the Levant Basin,” with the opportunity to pursue a doctorate, is to be filled as of 01/01/2026. The position is limited until 12/31/2028. The regular weekly working time amounts to 75% of a corresponding full-time position (currently 29.025 hours). Classification is based, provided the collective bargaining requirements are met, on pay group 13 TV-L.
This is part of the project “Thermal and structural modeling of the Levant Basin, eastern Mediterranean,” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The main goal of the project is to integrate available geophysical data and structural information into a thermal model of the Levant Basin. To this end, forward modeling is to be combined with statistical inversion approaches, 3D thermal computations, and novel magnetic vector data.
Requirements:

* Completed scientific university degree (Master’s/Diploma) in a field of the geosciences, preferably with a focus on geophysics
* English language skills (B2)
* Good programming skills (Python and/or Matlab)
* Knowledge of geophysical signal analysis

Desirable:
* Experience with potential field data and modeling
* Knowledge of statistical inversion methods
