Job description

We invite applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow to advance artificial intelligence for Earth system science, climate science and sustainability. The fellow will join Dr. Mengze Li's lab at NUS to develop and apply modern ML/AI methods to pressing questions spanning the carbon cycle, atmospheric chemistry, and land–atmosphere interactions.

Role & responsibilities

  • Lead independent and collaborative research at the AI × climate interface (e.g., foundation models for Earth data, physics-guided ML, data assimilation, causal inference, uncertainty quantification).
  • Build reproducible pipelines for large geospatial datasets (satellite, reanalysis, in-situ; NetCDF/GRIB/GeoTIFF) and couple ML with process/radiative-chemical models where useful.
  • Publish in top venues and present at conferences; release open, well-documented code and data products.
  • Mentor students, collaborate across NUS and international partners, and contribute to proposals.

Minimum qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., AI/ML, computer science, atmospheric/earth system science, environmental engineering, physics, statistics). PhD awarded after January 1, 2023, or to be completed by December 2025.
  • Demonstrated experience and publications at the AI–climate/environment nexus (at least one first-author paper in a relevant ML or Earth/climate venue).
  • Proficiency with modern ML stacks (PyTorch/JAX/TensorFlow), scientific Python, version control, and working with large geospatial datasets.

Appointment details

  • Location: National University of Singapore, Singapore
  • Duration: 2 years (renewable/extendable subject to performance and funding, if applicable)
  • Start date: Flexible in early 2026
  • Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits per university norms.
