PhD position in Managing drained peatland forests for improved benefits
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
We seek a talented and motivated PhD student with a strong interest in boreal peatland and/or forest ecosystem services, with a particular focus on the carbon (C) cycle and biodiversity. This PhD project will assemble a novel empirical database on C balance and biodiversity in peatland forests across boreal Sweden managed through rewetting or continuous cover forestry (CCF). The resulting dataset will enable evaluation of how these management strategies influence C sequestration and biodiversity. Ultimately, the project will provide urgently needed decision support for governmental agencies and forest stakeholders to develop optimized strategies for boreal peatland forest management.
The position is based in Umeå, Sweden.
Deadline for application: 10th February, 2026
