Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2
University College Dublin
Tectonics and Structural Geology (TS)
We are seeking a highly motivated geoscientist for a 24-month postdoctoral position focused on geological fluid-flow modelling in deep geothermal reservoirs on the island of Ireland. The successful candidate will join an active, interdisciplinary research team working on the GEMINI project, funded by the PEACEPLUS European Union programme. The appointed researcher will carry out a dedicated research project involving fluid-flow modelling in fractured carbonate reservoirs of the Dublin Basin and siliciclastic reservoirs of the Antrim Basin—both of which are key targets for district-heating applications. The work will include 3D fluid- and heat-flow modelling and calibration, integrating structural geology, sedimentology, and both stochastic and deterministic approaches. Project outputs will include peer-reviewed publications, along with improved insights into reservoir performance and uncertainties in deep geothermal systems.

The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead.
The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
