The Geophysics Group at the University of Science and Technology of China

The Geophysics Group at the University of Science and Technology of China is one of the leading geophysics research communities in China. The group is part of the School of Earth and Space Sciences, which consists of the Department of Geophysics and Space Sciences and the Department of Geochemistry and Environmental Sciences. With more than 20 professors, the group offers broad expertise spanning solid Earth geophysics and terrestrial planetary science. Our research covers a diverse set of topics, including (but not limited to) machine learning in geoscience, Earth structure and dynamics, volcanic seismology, earthquake source mechanism, geodynamics, mineral physics, geodesy, and the interiors and evolution of terrestrial planets. We provide a collaborative and inclusive research environment, with strong opportunities for postdoc fellows to pursue interdisciplinary collaborations and develop cross-cutting expertise.

Job description

The Geophysics group at the University of Science and Technology of China invites applications for the Kunqiong Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. This fellowship supports outstanding early-career researchers who have received their Ph.D. within the past three years in Earth and planetary physics. The appointment is for two years, with continuation into the second year contingent upon satisfactory progress in the first year.

The annual salary is 400,000 RMB (~$55,000), and appointees are eligible for benefits. Given the low cost of living in Hefei, China, this is a highly competitive compensation package. Fellows also receive a research allowance of 50,000 RMB (~$6,500) per year. Reasonable relocation expenses are covered.
