Ph.D./Postdoctoral position in Soil Physics and Multiphase Flow
We have an open position for a PhD candidate or Postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of computational hydrology, Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), Volcani Institute, Israel. The elected candidate will work under the direction of Dr Ziv Moreno (ARO) and Dr Ilan Ben-Noah (ARO).
Project: Laboratory experiments and computer simulations demonstrated that air injection can significantly reduce the hydraulic conductivity of porous media. In this project, we propose an innovative hydraulic control method for groundwater flow: Dewatering by Air Sparging (DAS). Our strategic objectives are:
1. To uncover the fundamental mechanisms governing dynamic, induced multiphase flow under DAS.
2. Establish experimental and field validation of the DAS concept through rigorous laboratory testing and field-scale demonstration.
3. Deliver practitioner-ready outcomes that accelerate DAS toward commercial deployment.
Funding: The project is funded, and a full scholarship will be provided.
Requirements: Applications must have completed a Master's degree in physics, geosciences, environmental, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or a comparable subject. Experience with numerical simulations and coding is a plus.
Application procedure: Interested candidates are welcome to send a letter of motivation and an up-to-date CV, including the contact details of two referees, to zivm@volcani.agri.gov.il , ilanb@volcani.agri.gov.il.
