The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Environmental Predictions Department (EPD) of CARE-C Centre of Excellence on a full-time basis (100%) for its premises in Athalassas Campus.
Researcher(s) needed under the framework of the PACIFIC project implementation, Post-doctoral Research Fellow(s) in Atmospheric Sciences
The successful candidate will work under the framework of PACIFIC project implementation. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the research objectives of the EPD, within the wider framework of national and/or international research projects in:
· Atmospheric and climate/earth system modelling and analysis tools
· Aircraft Emission inventories, modelling and analysis
· Aviation non-CO2 climate impacts through global climate-chemistry modelling
· Modelling impacts of new particle formation on aerosol/cloud formation and climate impacts
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Model inclusion of emission inventories from global aviation
· Contribution to global climate-chemistry modelling with different emission scenarios for aircraft non-CO2 climate impacts
· Participation in CERN CLOUD Experiment campaigns at CERN
· Presentation of results in conferences and meetings and participation in journal publications
· Contribution to research proposal preparation, project (scientific) reporting & project management
· Supervision and guidance of Research Assistants and Students
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· PhD in Natural / Mathematical Sciences and/or Environmental Sciences/Engineering
· Programming skills (Fortran/Python)
· Visualization of netCDF model data
· Understanding of physical and mathematical concepts
· Numeracy and calculus skills
· Willingness to travel and spend time in Partner organizations
· Authored peer-reviewed journal publications and presented in international conferences
Position Specific Preferred Qualifications:
· Global climate-chemistry and aerosol modelling experience
· Experience with observational data analysis (ground, remote sensing, satellite)
· Experience with model evaluation statistical metrics
· Experience with netCDF datasets
