The industrial doctorate is jointly offered by both institutions: Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of UPC and ICGC.

The thesis will be supervised by UPC academic staff and with the research team of EGEO https://egeo.upc.edu/en and Geo2Aqua (https://futur.upc.edu/Geo2Aqua), and developed in the doctorate program of geotechnical engineering, within the framework of the research project MonTSE, with national funding.

Job description

We are looking for a candidate for an industrial doctorate (DI) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC.BarcelonaTech) with an agreement with the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), with preferential training in Civil, Environmental and/or Geological Engineering.

The research is carried out within the framework of the MonTSE Project

Research Focus

  • Sediment transport modelling: From source areas in mountain torrent catchments to downstream transport along stream channels.
  • Semi-quantitative multi-hazard risk analysis: Assessing risks associated with rockfalls and debris floods.

🎯 Desired Profile

  • Fieldwork Readiness: High motivation to conduct extensive field campaigns in mountainous terrain.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of programming and numerical modelling of debris floods mechanics.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Strong interest in interdisciplinary work and collaborative research environments.
  • Spanish or Catalan required
