Seeking an evaluation consultant for EGU’s 2025 science communication, outreach, and public engagement workshops.

9 July 2025

The Outreach Committee of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) is soliciting the development of an evaluation framework for its online workshops in science communication, outreach and public engagement for its members. The overall aim for these workshops is to inform EGU members of the importance of communicating and engaging different non-scientific audiences with their science, to train EGU members in current best practices within science communication, public engagement and outreach, and to equip EGU members with the skills to undertake a variety of difference communication, outreach and engagement activities. The evaluation framework is a necessary and beneficial step for planning, conducting and assessing the effectiveness and impact of such workshops.

We aim to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the EGU online workshops in science communication, outreach and public engagement which are offered each year to its members. The 2025 workshops will be delivered between September and December 2025. They will be held in English and offered online to 20-30 EGU members who have applied and made a commitment to attend them. Each workshop is consist of 3-4 sessions of no more than a few hours, spread over a two-three week period. The Outreach Committee are seeking one evaluator to create an evaluation framework for all three workshops running this year and then use the framework to assess the workshops. There is a total budget of up to €6,000 total (inclusive of VAT) available to cover all three evaluations.

The evaluation framework will be developed to asses the following workshops this year:

Lights, Camera, Geoscience! Video Communication to Transform Geoscience Perceptions (delivered by Four.Six)

Efficiently explaining science and communicating hazards and probabilities for the media and the public (delivered by Vertical stories)
