The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is the leading non-profit organisation for Earth, planetary, and space science research in Europe with more than 23,500 members from all over the world. With our partner societies worldwide, we foster fundamental geoscience research, alongside applied research that addresses key societal and environmental challenges. EGU publishes 20 open-access scientific journals, and organizes and supports a range of events, including meetings, training schools and, of course, the annual General Assembly. The annual EGU General Assembly is the largest and most prominent European geosciences event.

The EGU Executive Office manages most of the IT and information systems of the Union, including: the Office’s infrastructure (hardware and software); network and telecommunication services; websites; email systems; and various online services for our members. To support the IT Manager, EGU is currently seeking a full-time, permanent IT Specialist, based in the Executive Office in Munich, Germany.

Main tasks:

  • Support, development and enhancement of our IT infrastructure
  • Support and development of existing software
  • Documentation

Requirements:

  • Strong IT affinity and a keen interest in technology
  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Good programming skills (e.g. Python, PHP, Shell-Scripts, JavaScript)
  • Good knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Good knowledge of relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Qualification as an IT specialist or comparable qualifications (we welcome professionals with career changes)
  • Structured and independent working style
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Reliable, committed and motivated
  • Strong command of German and English (spoken and written)

Salary, work package and starting date:
This position, to start as soon as possible, is based in Munich, Germany and will be subject to a 6-month probation period. Indicative remuneration for the role will be in the range of €45,000 to €53,000 (annual gross) subject to expertise and experience, and includes an annual wage adjustment based on inflation. In addition, the role provides:
