Job alert! Executive Assistant

25 February 2026

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is the leading organisation for Earth, planetary, and space science research in Europe. With our partner societies worldwide, we foster fundamental geoscience research, alongside applied research that addresses key societal and environmental challenges. EGU publishes 20 open-access scientific journals, and organizes and supports a range of events, including meetings, training schools and, of course, the annual General Assembly. The EGU General Assembly is Europe’s largest and most prominent geosciences event, having seen a major increase in the number of participants over the last ten years.

As we plan for the future, EGU is now seeking to employ someone who can provide critical support to the EGU Executive Director, and to strengthen our publishing and meetings operations. This full-time, permanent position will fill a critical role in the EGU’s Executive Office, based in Munich, Germany.

Main tasks:

  • You will provide administrative, logistical and organisational support to the Executive Director on a range of matters; from volunteer co-ordination and calendar management, to the legal and financial structures of the EGU, as a non-profit organisation in Germany, but also when dealing with the EGU’s commercial activities (Publications and General Assemblies)
  • You will contribute to the EGU Office management, and develop a comprehensive understanding of EGU Office activities including supporting the EGU volunteers
  • You will support the day-to-day activities of the Office, as a part of the EGU team
  • With guidance from the Executive Director, you will contribute to EGU’s strategic planning
  • With guidance from the Events Manager, you will get a deep understanding of the co-ordination and organisation of the annual General Assembly, and provide support to the Events Manager when necessary

  • You are fluent (C1) in English and German
  • You have good analytical and prioritisation skills
  • You have, at minimum, a Master’s degree in a Geosciences subject, or in Association Management

Desirable:

  • You have experience with higher-level academic environments, such as through a PhD in Geosciences (or equivalent)
  • You have experience working or volunteering for a not-for-profit organisation, preferably in Germany
  • You have knowledge and experience of association management and/or community organizing

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide contact details for two referees. Informal inquiries about this position can be made to the EGU Executive Director Dr Philippe Courtial (executive-director@egu.eu).  We are particularly interested in applications from people who are from under-represented communities in the sciences; please get in touch with us if anything can be done to support such an application.
