EGU Galileo Conference: Mass extinctions, recovery and resilience 24 January 2019 The first EGU Galileo Conference of 2019 will examine all aspects of mass extinctions from deep time to the present day. It will take place on 28–31 August 2019 at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. The deadline for abstract submission is 30 April 2019. Read more

DEADLINE APPROACHING Applications open for the EGU General Assembly Mentoring Programme 23 January 2019 For the third year in a row, the EGU is offering a mentoring programme for novice conference attendees, students, and early career scientists at its annual General Assembly. The programme aims to facilitate new connections that may lead to long-term professional relationships within the Earth, planetary and space science communities. We especially encourage potential mentors to sign up and share their expertise with first-timers at the General Assembly. The deadline for applications is 31 January. Read more
Virginia Gewin, Katherine Kornei and Martha Henriques awarded EGU Science Journalism Fellowship Press release 22 January 2019 The support will allow Gewin to report on peatland restoration efforts in Scotland, Kornei to follow a team in Taiwan studying the dynamic landscape of Taroko National Park and its landslides, and Henriques to travel to several European countries to explore some of the continent’s abandoned uranium mines. Illustrator and sculptor will be artists in residence at the EGU General Assembly 2019 17 January 2019 Morgane Merlin, an environmental science PhD student and visual artist based in Alberta, Canada, and Giorgo Skretis, a visual artist and musician based in Chania, Greece, are the artists selected for a residency at the next EGU General Assembly. The meeting is taking place on 7–12 April 2019 in Vienna, Austria. Read more
Submit your images to the EGU Imaggeo Photo Competition 15 January 2019 The tenth annual EGU photo competition opens on 15 January. Up until 15 February, every participant pre-registered for the General Assembly can submit up to three original photos and one moving image on any broad theme related to the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. Simply upload your photos to imaggeo and choose the option to include them in the photo contest. Read more
EGU response to Indonesia’s tsunami following Anak Krakatau volcanic eruption Press release 24 December 2018 On Saturday at around 21:30 local time (15:30 CET), a tsunami struck Indonesia’s Sunda Strait, which is located between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The tsunami may have been caused by undersea landslides following the eruption of the Anak Krakatau volcano. EGU experts comment on the events. Read more

Submit your abstract and register for the EGU General Assembly 2019 20 December 2018 The EGU General Assembly 2019 (7–12 April, Vienna, Austria) will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences.
