EGU also promotes the inclusion of under-represented groups in all our events (such as the annual General Assembly) and committees, and as recipients of our medals and awards. However, despite our ambitions, many groups remain under-represented in EGU at all levels. This is not an issue unique to geoscience societies.

He was a major contributor to the development of the EGU, and a strong supporter of open access publishing, as well as of researchers in the earlier stages of their careers. On a more uplifting note, in September we are launching the call for proposal for a new conference programme: the Galileo Conferences .
Home / Awards & medals / Louis Néel Medal / 2026 / François Renard
He is a pioneer in the application of laser scanning technology (LiDAR) to quantify fault surface roughness, both in laboratory experiments and natural field settings. In recent years, Renard has led cutting-edge research using X-ray microtomography to investigate the evolution of microscale damage in rocks subjected to brittle deformation.

Dippold BG Biogeosciences The 2017 Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award is awarded to Michaela A. Dippold for outstanding research in the field of terrestrial biogeosciences. The originality of her research is the use of position specific labeling of organic molecules to understand their turnover and fate in soil. Michaela Anna Dippold uses advanced stable isotope approaches to disentangle biogeochemical processes at the molecular level.
Home / Awards & medals / Milutin Milanković Medal / 2012 / Wolfgang Berger
Berger is a pioneer in understanding the mechanisms of how the carbonate system of the ocean controls atmospheric CO 2 content and how the imprint of carbonate dissolution cycles can be read and understood by studies of the marine sedimentary record. He pioneered key concepts in this field for instanceby introducing the concept of the carbonate lysocline.
Home / News / Press releases / Sea level will rise faster than previously thought
“We have better historical data for the sea-level rise in total, which, in principle, allows for a test of the combined puzzle of models”, says Grinsted. “However, it has not been part of the routine to make sea-level hindcasts at IPCC , so presently we are not able to tell if these models are capable of reproducing the historical sea level.

Corinne Le Quéré The 2025 Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal is awarded to Corinne Le Quéré for development of research demonstrating the role of the oceans in the changing global carbon cycle, and leadership in the Global Carbon Project. As a world-renowned expert on the changing global carbon cycle, Corinne Le Quéré is well deserving of the 2024 Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal.
