Yet, the value of these activities is often overlooked and less recognised in professional circles than traditional academic outputs, though this is changing. The EGU recognises that science outreach requires specific skills and dedication, making it a challenging and time-consuming enterprise.

For the EGU General Assembly 2022, Patrick presented his recent experimental results on nitrogen fixation by lightning on the early Earth. Comparing the isotopic composition of the fixed nitrogen products in the experiment to the sedimentary rock record allowed to investigate lightning contributions of nutrients for the earliest forms of life.

The work presented and awarded at the vEGU2022 estimates carbon sequestration capacity of Sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) plantations in the National Taiwan University Experimental Forest by a process-based model based on the structure of the Physiological Principles for Predicting Growth (3-PG).

The award-winning EGU25 poster presentation is part of her PhD thesis, demonstrating the influence of UTH on the longwave cloud radiative forcing (LWCRF) in the tropics. In this study, she quantified the respective impacts of various types of clouds, total column water vapour, and UTH on LWCRF variability, showing that LWCRF over the tropics is primarily influenced by UTH derived from microwave observations.

By combining mineral composition, iron content, and temperature distribution in the lower mantle, he reported a global heat flux distribution at the core-mantle boundary. The heat flux is significantly lower in the LLSVPs regions, which could significantly impact the geomagnetic field and the thermal evolution of the Earth.

Below are the EGU's open access peer-reviewed journals relevant to the Natural Hazards Division. For a complete list of EGU journals, click here . The EGU journals are indexed in the Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, etc. We refrain from displaying the journal metrics here since citation metrics used in isolation do not describe importance, impact, or quality of a journal.
Home / Awards & medals / Virtual Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (vOSPP) Awards / 2021 / Calvin Beck
As a member of the Ice and Climate unit, he focussed on the thermal processes of debris-covered glaciers and how the debris layer influences sub debris melt. In his interactive presentation, he highlighted crucial but unconsidered error sources that often occur while performing the standard method for estimating the thermal properties of the debris layer.

She is now a third year PhD student at the Centre d’Oceanologie de Marseille (COM), in the Laboratoire d’Oceanographie et de Biogeochimie (LOB) under the supervision of Pr. J.-L. Devenon and Dr. A. Petrenko. Her PhD research focuses on studying the intrusions of the Mediterranean Northern Current (NC) on the Gulf of Lion’s continental shelf.
