The 2020 awards and medals, to be announced in October 2019, will be presented to their recipients the following year, at the EGU General Assembly 2020 (3–8 May 2020) in Vienna. The winners of the 2019 awards and medals will be celebrated during this year’s General Assembly, at the EGU Award Ceremony taking place on Wednesday, 10 April, 17:30–20:00.

9 January 2025 The current Biogeosciences (BG) Division Deputy President, who was elected during the autumn 2023 elections and who would have been inaugurated as Biogeosciences Division President in April 2025, has had to resign with a very heavy heart for personal health reasons. Therefore, EGU will hold an extraordinary election in 2025 for the role of Biogeosciences Division President. The extraordinary election will take place from approximately the 25th February until 21st March 2025.

The annual EGU General Assembly is Europe’s largest and most prominent geosciences event. It attracts more than 16,000 scientists, more than half of which are early career, from all over the world. The meeting’s sessions cover all disciplines in the Earth, planetary and space sciences. Each annual General Assembly typically features more than 16,000 oral, poster and PICOs (interactive presentations that combine the advantages of orals and posters).
