The chair directs and guides the committee by: helping to define the aims and goals of the EGU Outreach Committee, in line with those established by the Union’s by-laws and Outreach best practices providing support and supervision to the members of the Committee organising and chairing meetings of the Outreach Committee (including the Outreach retreat and meeting(s) at the General Assembly), and reporting on outreach activities to the EGU Council establishing contacts with organisations and individuals potentially interested and able to contribute to EGU outreach activities Successful candidates for the chair of the committee will preferably have: wide geoscientific interests, linked to the activities of the Union (as exemplified by its different divisions) broad experience of outreach and policy (especially at the EU level) experience of working in committees international networking experience.

Claudia Kuenzer. His research focuses on Earth Observation for the analysis of continental surface water dynamics in the context of Global Change. The study presented at EGU24 focused on the evaluation of trends, patterns, and drivers of African surface water dynamics. He analyzed surface water trends throughout the continent, identified causal impacts on Africa’s major water bodies, and assessed similarities between different lakes.

The focus of his thesis were the hydraulic and hydrologic aspects of the glacier dammed lake outburst floods of Gornersee in the Swiss Alps. He investigated the lake drainages during four field seasons with tracer experiments and other accompanying hydrologic measurements and interpreted them with hydraulic models of the glacial drainage system.

His research concentrates on hydrogeophysical characterization of active gravel aquifers in restored and unrestored river environments. The awarded poster presents results of an aquifer zonation approach that uses joint inversion of three cross-borehole methods (ground-penetrating radar, seismics and electrical tomography) to define aquifer units with similar physical properties.

No Description The Deccan Traps in west-central India are one of the largest volcanic features on the planet. The solidified layers of flood basalt that make up the traps rise up to about 2,000 metres and cover an area of some 500,000 square kilometres. They are thought to have originated from volcanic eruptions that occurred between 60 and 68 million years ago.
