Aspects of geospatial technologies are of increasing importance in many areas of employment concerned with the landscape, for example in national and local government (where the appearance of 'Geodata Service Units' is increasing), in nature conservation agencies, in hydrocarbon exploration and oilfield management, in environmental consultancy, civil engineering projects and marine and coastal zone management.

They are often experienced scientists and acknowledged experts in their field who ensure that the presented research is of high quality, scientifically sound, and of interest to the journal audience. If you have ever wondered how you can get involved as an editor in one of EGU’s open-access journals, look no further and join us for this webinar that puts the editor in the spotlight!
Home / Awards & medals / Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal / 2024 / Daniel J. Conley
Following postdoctoral research in Florida and Marlyand, he moved to Denmark and then to Lund University, first as a Marie Curie Chair and then Professor. Among other recognitions, Conley is a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science, and a Fellow of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography where he received the Ruth Patrick Award in 2014.

It is a non-profit interdisciplinary learned association of scientists founded in 2002 with headquarters in Munich, Germany. The EGU publishes a number of diverse scientific journals, which use an innovative open access format, and organises a number of topical meetings, and education and outreach activities.
Home / News / Webinars and online events / Can I be a space person? A new resource for finding and sharing careers in space science
What careers are there in the space sector and how do you find them? How do you address the lack of awareness on the diversity of space careers? And how do you develop a resource to help early career people get on the job path? From engineer to artist to policy maker, the space sector has diversity of career paths.
Home / Awards & medals / Portrait / Philippe Duchaufour
Philippe Duchaufour brought original and very fundamental contributions to soil science, strongly expressing its geoscientific aspects. After completing his studies at the National Agronomic Institute in Paris, where he obtained the degree of engineer in 1935, Philippe Duchaufour started his work as lecturer and research scientist in the National School of Forestry of Nancy. His doctoral thesis dealing with ecological research on Atlantic oak forest provided original knowledge on processes in forest soils, with a focus on the inter- relationships parent rock - vegetation - soil humus.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Awards / 2015 / Suzanne Lutfalla
The awarded poster presented results on the influence of the mineralogy on multidecadal carbon persistence in the bare fallow of Versailles (France), I showed that contrasted mineralogies at the fine scale (clay fraction, < 2µm) led to differences in carbon dynamics in terms of both carbon content and mechanism involved.
Home / Awards & medals / Louis Agassiz Medal / 2013 / Florent Dominé
These are highly cited papers, reflecting in part the impact on understanding the behaviour of these species in stratospheric ice. His more recent contribution is his development of methods (using two very different approaches) for measuring the specific surface area of snow. He has applied his methods all over the world, where one can find snow, e.g. in the Alps, all over the Arctic, and in Antarctica.
Home / Awards & medals / Hans Oeschger Medal / 2006 / Bernhard Stauffer
This is arguably one of the most important results in paleoclimate research because it defines the range of natural variability of CO 2 in the climate system. Berhard Stauffer also initiated at the University of Bern the measurement of CH 4 on ice samples in close collaboration with colleagues from LGGE Grenoble.
