EGU26 Peer Support workshop 2: Networking without the ick – building professional relationships
To participate in the workshop "EGU26 Peer Support workshop 2: Networking without the ick – building professional relationships", you must register in advance using the button below.
For many researchers, networking can feel uncomfortable, awkward or simply unclear. This interactive workshop offers a more human and approachable way to build professional relationships - one that values curiosity, generosity and genuine connection. In this session, we’ll learn about networking and look at how it can move beyond self-promotion and become a natural extension of your interest in people and ideas. You’ll explore practical ways to start and navigate conversations at conferences, introduce yourself and your research with clarity and confidence, and follow up after events in ways that feel authentic and respectful.
The workshop is highly practical and supportive, combining live practice, small-group discussions and realistic General Assembly scenarios. You’ll be invited to reflect on what you want from professional connections, how to communicate that clearly, and how to engage in networking in a way that feels aligned with who you are and how you work.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with:
- A clearer, more relaxed approach to professional networking
- Practical conversation strategies for real conference situations
- Increased confidence in introducing yourself and your work
- A personalised Networking Playbook to support meaningful connection during and after the EGU26 General Assembly
