Piero D’Incecco is a PhD student at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität of Münster (Germany), working at the Institute of Planetary Research of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin (Germany) in the group of Dr. Jörn Helbert, his supervisor. His PhD project is in cooperation with Prof. Harald Hiesnger of the Department of Planetologie at the (WWU, Münster) and with Prof. James W. Head of the Department of Geosciences at “Brown University” in Providence, Rhode Island (USA). He obtained the Bachelor Degree in Geology and the Master Degree in “Structural geology and geodynamics of Earth and planets” at the Universita’ degli studi G. D’Annunzio of Chieti/Pescara (Italy). During his Master, he spent two periods of time at the “University of Oulu” (Finland) at the department of Planetary Sciences led by Prof. Jouko Raitala, before as an Erasmus student, then for elaborating a part of his Master thesis whose title is “Distinctive features of calderas on Venus”. In the group of Dr. Jörn Helbert at DLR his work is currently focused on the study of the crustal properties of Mercury and Venus, starting from the elaboration and analysis of the remotely sensed data achieved from the MESSENGER Mission and from the Venus Express Mission. The work displayed in the awarded poster investigates the properties of the upper crust of Mercury analyzing the spectral features and heterogeneities of 121 impact craters, which are used as a key for global stratigraphy.
