I am a Ph.D. student at the Department of Marine Geosciences at the University of Miami, USA. Working in the CSL–Center for Carbonate Research lab, my project focuses on the structural variabilities of cold-water coral mounds in the carbonate province of the Straits of Florida to further depict modern and paleo-environments influencing mound development.
Through the reconstruction of the paleo-oceanographic conditions of the Straits of Florida, the goal is to determine how the phases of glacial and interglacial cycles impacted cold-water coral growth and use that to predict future patterns of coral and mound growth.
The presented poster describes the complexity of the cold-water coral mounds of the Straits of Florida, revealing the unique structures and habitats of each mound despite developing within the same seaway.
