The 2018 Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Award is awarded to Kurama Okubo for the poster/PICO entitled:

Overall energy budget of earthquake rupture with dynamically generated off-fault crack network (Okubo, K.; Bhat, H. S.; Lei, Z.; Knight, E. E.; Rougier, E.; Klinger, Y.)

Kurama Okubo is a PhD candidate working at the Tectonique et mécanique de la lithosphère in Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, and the Laboratoire de Géologie in Ecole Normale Supérieure.

The work presented at EGU 2018 was conducted in collaboration with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
It describes a continuum-discontinuum approach framework with combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM) to model dynamic earthquake rupture with secondary coseismic off-fault damage along natural fault networks.

It shows the mechanism of dynamically generated off-fault fracture networks, the enhancement of high-frequency radiation in near-field ground motion, the evolution of damage zone size with depth, and the overall energy budget.
