Rahul Kumar is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. His research focusses on urban microclimate interaction with synoptic-scale events. He is investigating the role of different agents which control urban responses during heatwaves and storms.
The awarded presentation focuses on urban interactions with heatwaves. The study presents evidence of land surface temperature amplification in rural regions is in contrast with nearby urban systems. He also discussed the role of irrigation and vegetation in controlling the urban heat island intensity in different seasons and at different times of the day.
