The 2021 Virtual Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (vOSPP) Award is awarded to Elisabeth Schönfeldt for the poster/PICO entitled:

Detect Giant Landslides with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) (Schönfeldt, E.; Pánek, T.; Winocur, D.; Korup, O.)

Elisabeth Schönfeldt is a PhD student at the Institute of Geoscience, University of Potsdam, Germany. She is working in the natural hazards group led by Prof. Oliver Korup, where she researches large landslides of the Argentinian side in Patagonia. Her main research interest are the interactions between hydrology, geology and biology at large landslides in order to determine the causes of landsliding along basaltic plateaus and former glacial lakes. Her second interest lies in the application of machine learning algorithms, especially convolutional neural networks and the automated detection of landslides with topographic data and spectral images, which she presented in her PICO. Her project is part of the international graduate school StRATEGy (Surface processes, Tectonics and Georesources: The Andean foreland basin of Argentina).
