The 2023 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Alessia Tagliaferri for the poster/PICO entitled:

Garnet compositional re-adjustment: cooling rate constraint in metapelites from the Lepontine dome (Central European Alps) (Tagliaferri, A.; Moulas, E.; Schmalholz, S. M.; Schenker, F. L.)

Alessia Tagliaferri is a PhD student at the University of Applied Science and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) and University of Lausanne (UNIL). The aim of her work is to unravel the heat budget in the Barrovian metamorphic sequence of the Lepontine dome (Central Swiss Alps), where the heating and cooling scenarios related to Alpine collision are still under debate.

Alessia has a highly multidisciplinary approach, which comprises: extensive fieldwork for the production of geological maps, multi-scale structural geology, petrographic and geochemical analyses, zircon U-Pb dating, inverse multicomponent-diffusion modelling on garnets, and thermo-kinematic numerical modelling using Matlab.

In her poster at EGU23 she presented the application of inverse multicomponent-diffusion modelling on garnets, showing how garnet compositional re-adjustment constrains the cooling rate of metapelites from the Lepontine dome.
