The 2023 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Oleksandr Bonchkovskyi for the poster/PICO entitled:

Oleksandr Bonchkovskyi has recently completed his PhD at the Geography Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, where his supervisor was Natalia Gerasimenko. His PhD focused on a comprehensive study of loess-palaeosol sequences of the Volyn’ Upland (NW Ukraine) using sedimentological, palaeopedological, palaeocryological and palynological methods, which enabled to reveal short-term palaenvironmental changes during the Middle and Upper Pleistocene. The palaeosol studies were summarized in a presentation at EGU 2023, in which special attention was paid to the micromorphological features of palaeosols. His research presented a complex origin of palaeosols and identified at least several soils of MIS 3, 5, 7 and 9 that can be reliably correlated with marine isotopic sub-stages.
