The 2022 EGU science-policy pairing scheme with MEP Norbert Lins
To help promote a culture of evidence-informed policymaking and encourage stronger science-policy partnerships, the European Geosciences Union (EGU) will once again sponsor a scientist to work alongside a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for one week in November 2022. The pairing scheme will enable the selected EGU member to experience the daily work of an MEP, learn more about the role of science in policymaking, and potentially provide expertise on a science-policy issue.
The 2022 iteration of the EGU Science-Policy Pairing Scheme was hosted in November with Norbert Lins, an MEP representing Germany and the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats). Lins is Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the Co-Chair of the Biodiversity Working Group of the European Parliament Intergroup on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development. The selected EGU member, Elias Symeonakis, experienced life in the European Parliament for a week. A detailed blog post about his experiences will be posted in the coming weeks and linked to this page.
