The EGU’s first science-policy pairing scheme paired EGU member Solmaz Mohadjer, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tübingen, with Finnish Member of the European Parliament ( MEP ) Miapetra Kumpula-Natri . Kumpula-Natri is part of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and a member of the parliamentary committees on Industry, Research and Energy and International Trade.

But a new study published in Earth System Dynamics says this will not be enough. According to a team of scientists led by James Hansen, a professor at the Columbia University Earth Institute in the US, formerly at NASA , we also need to remove some of the carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere to limit warming to a level that would safeguard children’s futures.

This investigation highlights the advantages and effectiveness of this approach in suppressing shear and surface waves and enhancing the SNR of phases from the deep mantle and core.
