Rhander Taufner EMRP Earth Magnetism & Rock Physics The 2022 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Rhander Taufner for the poster/PICO entitled: Diopside microfabric development in lower-crust oceanic detachment fault zones (Taufner, R.; Trepmann, C.; Viegas, G.) Rhander Taufner is a PhD candidate at the University of Brasília, Brazil, working on strain localization processes in the ductile, lower ocean crust to assess the rheological behavior of rocks during exhumation of ocean core complexes at (ultra)slow mid-ocean ridges.

Tom Dror AS Atmospheric Sciences The 2021 Virtual Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (vOSPP) Award is awarded to Tom Dror for the poster/PICO entitled: EOF Analysis of Green Cumulus Mesoscale Organization (Dror, T.; Chekroun, M. D.; Altaratz, O.; Koren, I.) Click here to download the poster/PICO file. Tom Dror is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of the Weizmann institute of science in Israel.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Awards / 2025 / Ramona Schneider
Her research focuses on understanding past climate dynamics based on loess deposits in Tajikistan. In her poster presentation at EGU 2025, Ramona demonstrated that anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility can be used to identify a directional signal of past winds in the loess deposits of the Khovaling Loess Plateau. Her findings reveal a surprisingly consistent dust-transporting wind regime over the last 1.2 Million years.
Home / ECS / Undergraduate and postgraduate courses / Global Environmental Change
The programme includes coverage of both the scientific background, the research methods and tools commonly applied, and the societal and policy implications of current research understanding. It is designed to prepare students for careers in environmental change research, consultancy and/or policy development, and is delivered by a multidisciplinary team with assessments based on a series of written reports and a research dissertation.
Home / ECS / Undergraduate and postgraduate courses / Glaciology
To this end students gain direct experience of a wide range of techniques including: programming and operating automated data loggers, weather stations and environmental sensors; laboratory-based experimentation; gauging the discharge and chemical composition of glacial streams; manipulating and applying computer-based numerical models; interpreting glaciological features from remotely-sensed images; interpreting sediment/landform associations in glaciated areas, and analysing and interpreting the sedimentology of glacigenic sediments.
Home / ECS / Undergraduate and postgraduate courses / Meteorology, Physical Oceanography and Climate
In general, undergraduates admitted to the programme have good mathematical skills, a thorough understanding of classical mechanics and thermodynamics, and a basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and numerical methods. Go back

Rhian H. Meara The 2020 Katia and Maurice Krafft Award is awarded to Rhian H. Meara for her significant contributions to the dissemination of geography and Earth and environmental science topics to people with disabilities. Rhian H. Meara is the recipient of the EGU Katia and Maurice Krafft Award for pioneering contributions in the development of geographical and geological terminology in British Sign Language (BSL) for disabled students.
Home / Awards & medals / Arne Richter Awards for Outstanding Early Career Scientists / 2022 / Chao Yue
Combining the wave observation and coincident plasma measurements, Yue has revealed several intrinsic features about the whistler waves and EMIC waves which provide important insights for studying the excitation mechanism of plasma waves. In her brief professional career, she has a total of 27 first-authored/corresponding authored and 43 co-authored peer reviewed papers. In addition, Chao Yue has dedicated a lot of efforts to serve the space science community.
