The 2011 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Geert Vinken for the poster/PICO entitled:

Accounting for non-linear chemistry of shipping plumes in the GEOS-Chem global chemistry transport model (Vinken, G.C.M.; Boersma, K.F.; Meijer, E.W.; Jacob, D.J.)

Geert Vinken is a PhD student at the department of Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in The Netherlands. His research, carried out in collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) focuses on NOx emissions as part of the NWO Vidi project ‘Attributing the sources of tropospheric ozone from space’ (864.09.001). Currently he is working towards a better understanding of how global shipping affects atmospheric composition over the oceans. The poster presented at the EGU 2011 showed results of recent work on accounting for the non-linear chemistry during early stages of ship plumes expansion in a global chemistry transport model (GEOS-Chem).
