The 2015 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Panos Georgiou for the poster/PICO entitled:

Assessment of in-situ compaction degree of HMA pavement surface layers using GPR and novel dielectric properties-based algorithms (Georgiou, P.; Loizos, F.)

Panos Georgiou is a PhD student at the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), working under supervision of Prof. Andreas Loizos. His PhD project is focused on the assessment of the effect of compaction methodology on the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) properties and formation of laboratory compaction protocols in order to simulate the field compaction.
The poster presented at the EGU 2015 showed results concerning the effectiveness of GPR methodology to estimate the in-situ compaction degree of HMA pavement surface layers compared to traditional methods which have limited capabilities in terms of full coverage evaluation of the pavement mat and the potential of GPR technique to be used coupled with novel dielectric properties-based algorithms as a surrogate tool for pavement compaction quality purposes.
