The 2018 Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Award is awarded to Katarzyna Dudzisz for the poster/PICO entitled:

Rock magnetism of the Lower Triassic sedimentary rocks from Spitsbergen (Dudzisz, K.; Szaniawski, R.; Michalski, K.; Chadima, M.)

Katarzyna Dudzisz is a PhD student at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw (Poland). Her PhD study is funded by the Leading National Research Centre (KNOW) (03/KNOW2/2014) received by the Centre for Polar Studies for the period 2014–2018. In her research, she is interested in a variation of magnetic properties in the sedimentary rocks and an application of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) to solve geological and tectonic problems, e.g., the origin of the West Spitsbergen Fold and Thrust Belt.
On her poster, she presented rock magnetic results of the Triassic rocks collected from the West Spitsbergen Fold and Thrust Belt and its foreland. Application of various types of AMS allowed for indication of paramagnetic minerals as major contributors to the magnetic susceptibility. Moreover, this study suggests the compressional stage of the fold belt formation whereas magnetic fabric in the foreland reflects the Triassic paleocurrent direction.
